I’ve spent some hours sitting down with Jeb Hensarling at his Dallas home, and he’s one of the good ones on economics. The $700 billion bailout has had its EPIC FAIL (woo hoo!) moment, but before it went to vote, he put it perfectly.
Republican Jeb Hensarling of Texas, a leading conservative, said the bill puts the country “on the slippery slope to socialism. If you lose your ability to fail, soon you will lose your ability to succeed.”
great quote.
I’m not smart enough to figure out the economics, but I’m dumbfounded by the politics. You have a picture of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and Paulson at the podium talking about the bailout. The Republicans want to have nothing to do with anything Bush related because they know it could cost them their seats.
My question is, in the 7 years of OUT OF CONTROL spending under this administration have they chosen to take a stand. Better late than never I guess some would say.
And that, Shawn is a damn good question.
They haven’t behaved like what they say they are since, oh, about 1997.
You must admit, it’s funny though — the GOP rabbits out there as the opposition, and Reid, Pelosi, Frank et al out there standing by Dubya.
Weird effing day.
