- So now a three-judge panel has ruled that open meetings laws go too far in a case coming out of Alpine, Texas, and that elected officials should be free to discuss public matters privately. Basically, those pesky open meetings laws violate the First Amendment rights of our civil masters servants. This is a road we want to go down. If we’re tired of this whole “constitutional republic” thing. Thankfully, several state AG’s, including the Texas AG, are seeking to get this really bad ruling reviewed. (h/t Grits for Breakfast.) As if it’s not hard enough getting public records and information in Dallas County.
- Via Big Bob: In trying to slap a tax on gentlemen’s clubs — despite there being no correlation between strip clubs and sexual assaults — the Lege has just given every strip club a good reason to drop their cover charge. Unintended consequences, sometimes I love you.
Tom McGregor is either adorably obtuse or misunderstanding the concept of muckraking. There has to be muck to rake, and saying Craig Watkins used the Dallas Bar Association to send Dallas Blog a press release when – if you read the press release he quoted – it’s patently obvious that the Dallas Bar Association is sponsoring the event, and Craig Watkins is speaking there. Ergo, the Dallas Bar Association sent the press release about its own event, something it probably does on a pretty regular basis.
You can’t rake at gravel and will it to be muck. It doesn’t work that way.
I for one welcome our new zombie insect overlords.

1) DallasBlog is still around?
2) If McGregor had seen the first two episodes of “Dallas DNA,” he’d know that Watkins appears in about all of 2 percent of it, and has spoken on camera just once.
The show, which is great, BTW, focuses on the excellent work his office is doing for the good of innocent people wrongly convicted of crimes. And he’s getting his “regular job” done, too.
