Plausibly Undeniable

As a youngster, I’d scoff at my very conservative father, accusing him of seeing communists under the bed. Ol’ Dad was right after all.
What’s wrong with communism?
What’s right about it?
Oh, I see, you think all ‘socialists’ are longing for the return of the former USSR. Because if the USSR was corrupt, then socialism is corrupt.
We’re all socialists now.
Anonymous,
Yes, I realize your question was rhetorical, but Keith’s follow up question provides the opportunity to make it real. So, here’s what’s wrong with it: it has been tried many, many times and it has never worked. In each and every case where various forms were implemented in various places around the world at various periods in history, the results were the same: worse economic conditions, worse standard of living, less creativity / innovation, more repression of individual rights.
Now, can you answer Keith’s question about what you believe is right with it?
Thanks,
JimmyJohn
Any system of governance can be corrupted by those who run it. We haven’t seen the worst of the American system – yet.
What’s right with socialism is all the communal things you take for granted in the US – public roads, utilities, libraries, schools, parks, etc. What’s wrong with socialism is the association with the failed policies of the Soviet Union and China and a few others – we shall see how these new “free market” economies fare when the wheels start to come off.
Any system run on the concept of “each according to their ability to each according to their need” is doomed to failure. Human beings will not produce under such a system. As stated above, the system has been tried before under many different regimes. NONE have worked.
Either support what you say or stop yammering inane bs.
See, Frank, when you get all uppity like that, it irritates people. What’s right about socialism is what smart-assed ‘libertarians’ like you take for granted – public roads, public utilities, schools, libraries, Social Security, etc. That’s what people like about socialist institutions. Any system has flaws that be mitigated or exacerbated by the personalities running the show. While your sacred “free market” economics has provided us with no end of bread and circuses, some are starting to see a serious “correction” coming to right the wrongs of our “free market.”

So Anonymous, do you subscribe to the theory that Communism would work if implemented correctly?
Communism goes against the very nature of man; no where in the 20th century was there a successful communist state, only millions of dead left in its wake.
Upon the death of Stalin, true believers lamented that the nightmare has ended, but the dream lives on. Idiots.

Yeah the American system sucks-and any other system in the history of the world has sucked worse. Say what you will about the American system, but nowhere in world history has weatlh and affluence been within reach of the common man. Not trying to sound like Glen Beck, but this is the greatest country in the history of the world, warts and all and if/when it falls the era of the United States will be looked back on as the golden era of history.
Liberty works well for me, so much so that I want more of it and I’m working towards that goal.
Perhaps socialism works well for the people in this video.
Libertarians and socialists can intermingle to learn about the others way of life. If I learn something new and decide that I want myself some socialism, I’ll join up with them and be part of the group. Likewise, any socialist is always welcome to experience liberty and I’ll help as much as I can. My difficulty is that I’ve never met a socialist who respects individuality.
“‘libertarians’ like you take for granted – public roads, public utilities, schools, libraries, Social Security, etc.”
No libertarians do not take those for granted. They are well aware of the costs, something the left would prefer to ignore. Nor are such public entities and works exclusive to socialist systems.
You have yet to adequately support what you say.
As Keith says, socialism goes against man’s nature. Socialism does not allow a choice as to whom we support with through the fruit of our efforts. Nor does it allow us the freedom not to support. It takes the fruit of our efforts and distributes it to those it deems in need. That is socialism. That also explains why it results in such bloody and vicious regimes. It has a total disregard for the individual. It’s not some glorious utopia that glassy eyed leftists moon about. If you completely understand this, Anon, and still believe that it is the best of systems, you truly are a leech, figuratively speaking
